the
White Nationalist Party
After
a short while with the National Front, he then joined up with the White
Nationalist Party, serving on its head committee. The
White Nationalist Party (WNP) was started by hard-line “Nazis” who had
supported the BNP while John Tyndall was leader of that party, but who had
been kicked out for their extreme views when Nick Griffin became BNP
Chairman. At
the time when Cotterill joined the WNP, that party had recently applied to
the Electoral Commission to register a political party, the “White
Party.” The
Electoral Commission, however, refused to register a party with that name. Cotterill
then suggested to the WNP that they start a party with another name
completely to bypass the ban. The
WNP head committee enthusiastically agreed to this plan: and the “England
First Party” was born, with Cotterill as its leader.
Remember that at this stage, Cotterill was still serving on the WNP
head committee, and had specifically proposed starting that party as a front
for the WNP. The
WNP was subsequently absorbed into yet another one of those endless splinter
groups, the British Peoples’ Party. However,
the cross membership of all these groups remains the same, as issue #116 of
the WNP/BPP bulletin, Nationalist World, dated 10th February
2007, confirms: “BURNLEY
BY-ELECTION Steven
Smith, leading British People’s Party member will be the England First
Party candidate for the forthcoming Burnley by-election, in Stoneyholme with
Daneshouse ward, due to be held on Thursday 15th February. Steven
will be the EFP's first ever If
you can't get over to STOP

holding an election meeting in From
the BPP to Party Comrade Steve – good luck Steve – get in and give them
hell!” - BPP's Nationalist World # 166
which
is the official badge of the “Blood and Honour” Movement. After Cotterill was elected to the Blackburn council, he ordered this overt Nazi badge to be removed from the EFP merchandise page – amongst other things although the badge image itself remained on the EFP server, as this screenshot clearly shows:
